Atlanta Safe Journey Transportation was born from a deeply personal experience — and a need within our own family. What began as a struggle to find dignified, accessible transport for the people we love became a mission to serve families across Metro Atlanta.
The Spark
Our Grandmother, Justa
The woman who showed us why this matters
We never imagined how much our family would one day need a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. That understanding changed when our grandmother, Justa, who was living with Alzheimer's disease, began experiencing a decline in her health. After suffering two falls that resulted in fractures to both hips, her ability to walk became severely limited.
In the beginning, we found ways to keep her part of everyday life — medical appointments, the park, even simple outings like getting her hair done. At first, we helped her pivot into the vehicle; eventually, two of us were needed to lift and transfer her. As her condition progressed, this became difficult and, ultimately, unsafe.
Something as simple as getting into a car became an overwhelming challenge. Routine appointments, follow-ups, and lab work grew hard to coordinate. Without a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, much of her healthcare had to be managed at home. Beyond the medical strain, we felt the emotional weight of being unable to enjoy simple family outings together — and her cognitive condition meant she could not be left alone, making everyday routines difficult for the whole family.

Our Mother, Ofelia
96 wonderful years — and a fall that changed everything
Our experience with our beloved mother, Ofelia, further reinforced the importance of accessible transportation. We have been incredibly blessed to have her in our lives for 96 wonderful years. With longevity, however, come natural age-related changes — fatigue, an unsteady gait, a higher risk of falls, and visual impairment.
Though she had been remarkably healthy overall, one unexpected day she fell while walking to the bathroom and sustained a fractured pelvis. She had been living independently, but that single accident dramatically changed her life and daily routine. Her ability to walk was affected, and once again our family faced the same frustration, uncertainty, and emotional distress we had known with our grandmother.
We struggled to find a reliable, affordable, and accessible transportation service in our community that could accommodate her needs. We wanted to keep taking her to medical appointments, family gatherings, and the meaningful activities she had always enjoyed — yet without the right transportation, something that should have been simple became another source of stress.
Our Purpose
Turning Personal Challenges Into a Mission
It was through these experiences that we discovered our purpose. We decided to turn our personal challenges into something meaningful by establishing a family-operated transportation company dedicated to helping other families in our community. Our mission is to provide reliable, safe, and compassionate non-emergency medical transportation — giving families peace of mind and helping their loved ones maintain access to healthcare, independence, and the activities that make life meaningful.
